Keeping Linden’s roads safe and well maintained starts with accurate reporting.

If you notice a pothole, damaged pavement, missing road signs, or faulty traffic lights, the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) is the correct municipal entity to contact.

This guide explains exactly how to log a fault and get action.

What the JRA is responsible for

The Johannesburg Roads Agency handles:

  • Pothole repairs
  • Stormwater drains
  • Road reinstatement
  • Road markings
  • Road signage
  • Traffic signals
  • Pavements and sidewalks (hard surface)

How to log a JRA fault

Step 1 – Report the problem

Use any of these official channels:

When logging the issue, include:

  • Exact location (street + nearest intersection)
  • A clear description
  • Photos (if possible)

You will receive a reference number — keep it safe.

Step 2 – Follow up

  • Wait at least 24 hours
  • Follow up on the same channel using your reference number
  • Keep records of your communication

  • Register once and report potholes from your phone

Option 2 – WhatsApp

  • Send “Hi” to 084 768 4653

What happens after you report?

  • JRA assesses the issue
  • It’s assigned to the relevant depot
  • Repairs are scheduled based on urgency and available resources

Some work, like major resurfacing, can take longer — but logging ensures it’s on record.

Tips for effective reporting

  • Always ask for and keep the reference number
  • Be specific about the location
  • Add photos if you can
  • Follow up if there’s no response
  • Encourage neighbours to log the same issue too (multiple reports help prioritisation)
